The IRS defines 501(c)(3) exemption requirements here. In general, this exemption is applied to not-for-profit organizations (scientific, charitable, educational, religious, etc.) that must be registered and verified by the US Government through the IRS. Please note that 501(c)(3) tax exemptions and deductions are only available in the United States.

If you or the organization you are raising funds for has 501(c)(3) exemption status, you can designate your campaign as a 501(c)(3). When you create your campaign, you will be asked "Which person or organization will receive funds from your campaign?" Select "A nonprofit institution registered as a 501(c)(3) in the United States." Next, on the "Get Funded" tab, enter the EIN (Employer Identification Number) for your organization. Your campaign is now ready to receive funds. Your 25% discount on Indiegogo platform fees will be automatically applied. All funds will be sent to your organization through FirstGiving.

FirstGiving is a payments platform that allows us to send money directly to a nonprofit organization. FirstGiving will send your donors a tax-deductible receipt for their contribution. Additionally, Indiegogo will place a badge on your campaign page certifying that all funds will go to a verified nonprofit organization. FirstGiving will charge a 4% payment processing fee before sending funds to the nonprofit organization. Funds will be sent directly to the nonprofit on a monthly or weekly basis.
